1st May 2016

Dear Friends,

Tech Mahindra SMART Academy for Healthcare has been launched and we cannot describe the happiness we felt when the first batch greeted me with flowers. In a batch of 24, there are as many as 16 girls and 8 boys, that is, more than 60% are girls.

While interacting with the group of students,  a frail young girl came to our notice, she was smiling and full of energy. She had enrolled in the SMART Academy for the GDA (General Duty Assistant) course and it was her first day.

We want to share with you the story of Mamta. She lost her father, a daily sanitation worker almost a decade ago and her mother, a domestic helper faced tremendous financial hardships and has struggled to raise 6 children. Blessed with tremendous empathy Mamta decided to supplement the family income by working as domestic help in a nearby house.

Life was hard but Mamta did not give up. She continued her studies even as she worked. Today she has completed class 12 and has registered for graduation through correspondence. And that is not all….She has joined the GDA course too.

Mamta’s day starts early. She goes to work as a domestic help at six in the morning, comes to the TMF Academy at 9 and in the evening she helps her mother in housework even as she studies for her BA course.

“I am determined to have a successful career and a decent life. When I heard about the course I became hopeful and felt now I too can live a life of dignity,” she expressed giving her reasons to join the course.
Please join hands in clapping for Mamta!

Warm Regards,
Tech Mahindra Foundation
