Anis Amin Shaikh

Trained at Tech Mahindra Foundation's Smart Centre Ramtekadi

Ramtekadi is a slum in Pune where a large part of the population, particularly the youth is uneducated and employed in the informal sector. They are either rag pickers, vegetable vendors or involved in small business. Only a handful of youth in this area are in colleges. Even the ones in colleges look for guidance because they are unsure about their career path.

Undeterred by the difficult conditions of Ramtekadi,  Tech Mahindra Foundation started new SMART centre in 2016 and brought a ray of hope to the youth there.

Anis Amin Shaikh is a student at the Smart Centre Ramtekadi. His father, a tailor, runs a small tailoring shop and the family is barely able to get by on the amount he earns.

Anis completed his graduation and then started looking for a job but he couldn’t get. “I could pass the first two rounds of interviews but then I had problems so I wanted to work on it,” says Anis.

In June he took admission in the SMART Centre. Gradually, his English communication and presentation skills improved. With the help of his English teacher he also improved his typing speed.

The centre manager invited HR professionals to the SMART centre and tried to create a positive image about the youth of Ramtekadi. Now, companies have started visiting the Tech Mahindra SMART centre and are recruiting young men and women from there.

Anis worked hard and gradually could see a change in himself. He got selected in Concentrix Daksh Private Ltd. on an annual package of Rs. 2,00,000. He has set an example for the Ramtekdi youth that nothing is impossible.

“I can support my family now and live a decent life,” says Anis with a smile.

We are proud of Anis!
