Best Way to Sharpen Your Skills is to Use Them 1

B Pavan Kumar

Trained at BCT-TMF SMART-T Autonagar, Visakhapatnam

Pavan hails from a semi-urban region of Visakhapatnam. He has a family of four members wherein his father and elder brother are electricians and earn a livelihood from the construction field. After completing ITI training in electrical trade from a local college, he wanted to focus on higher studies. However, COVID happened resulting in negatively affecting the family’s economic condition due to lack of work. As a result, it was hard for the family to make ends meet, compelling Pavan to put a hold on his further studies.

Understanding the need of the hour, Pavan resorted to work to additionally provide for his family. Initially, his job search wasn’t very fruitful due to the absence of required skills.  That is when, he got to know about Tech Mahindra Foundation’s skill training program (SMART) and reached out to a Technical Skill Training Centre in association with Bhagavatula Charitable Trust (BCT) at Autonagar. Coming from a family of electricians, he had a basic understanding of the field, but the Centre counsellor gave him a deep dive into the training components to become a skilled electrical technician. He also got to know about the career prospects of a trained electrician in the sector.

Looking at this ray of hope, he enrolled himself on the three-month Electrical Technician course wherein he could become proficient in his skills. He got to learn about the technicality of circuit diagrams, wiring procedures and details related to Industrial Automation and much more. Besides the technical stuff, he acquired work-readiness skills such as conversing in basic English, operating computers, presenting himself, writing resumes and much more that eventually helped him to become more confident and improved his overall personality.

After completing the technical training, he bagged a job in Frozen Foods company as a maintenance technician and is earning a decent salary to support his family. Looking forward to a successful career ahead, Pavan considers this as, “just a beginning towards a bright future”.

We wish him good luck!
