THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING & FACILITATION

A teacher supported at our Shikshaantaar program in Delhi (ITEI-EDMC)

“The impact of good training and bad training determines whether a surgeon can save your life! While how they are at school determines a child’s prospects, nowhere is the quality of training so ignored as for educators.” Pointing out this bitter irony is the young RuchikaVerma who found herself struggling to cope with the needs of her students.

Realising the gravity of this need for the East Delhi Municipal Corporation’s schools, the In-Service teacher education training was systematised at ITEI-EDMC. Space was primarily created to address the needs of learners, which is now a haven for teachers such as Ruchika.

After attending the training sessions at the Institute, she felt confident in her abilities. However, it is the difference in her classroom environment that she cherishes the most!

“From making us familiar with the needs of the classroom to helping us in decoding the textbooks to selecting the right pedagogy,  ITEI-EDMC indeed is the one-stop solution to all my classroom needs,” she asserts.

She develops daily teaching plans and has made her classroom full of books. From the Resource Room, she borrows books and teaching-learning material to assist her lessons. During one of the classroom visits, the faculty found her engaging her learners in a group reading activity.

While it is not entirely uncommon to initiate change, to ensure its permanence is the critical challenge! With these sessions, she hopes that the motivation needed to innovate in the classroom continually will never be in short supply.

As educational systems and institutions are getting revamped across the globe, it is only natural that things could not be far behind for us in India. However, it is because of such inspired individuals that there is hope that change is underway across the system.
