Simplifying learning science

“I always try to make my classes lively because Science is such a subject that only an experimental atmosphere can merit its liveliness. I must give significant credit for the liveliness in my classrooms to the training that I underwent at Science Academyorganized by Tech Mahindra Foundation. I have greatly enhanced my activity-based teaching through the training program.” – Ms. Tahera Begum

“I always try to make my classes lively because Science is such a subject that only an experimental atmosphere can merit its liveliness. I must give significant credit for the liveliness in my classrooms to the training that I underwent at Science Academyorganized by Tech Mahindra Foundation. I have greatly enhanced my activity-based teaching through the training program.” says Tahera. In collaboration with Sahayata Trust, Tech Mahindra Foundation established a Science Academy in Hyderabad to enhance pedagogy skills of teachers in Science for grades 5 and above. A dedicated lab for Biology, Chemistry and Physics, the Science Academy instigates curiosity in teachers to learn and teach Science in a creative manner.

Her classes are filled with fun and this is not only evident in her classroom observations but also supported by opinions of her colleagues and principal. “My mother has always inspired me. Especially, the way she offered me guidance and always encouraged me to follow my heart gave me insights on how to extend the same support to my students.”- shares Tahera.

Minority students are disadvantaged in more than one way and many students join the schools in higher grades after dropping out of the school in lower grades. As a result, they lack sufficient background knowledge when they return to formal schooling. It takes a great deal of hard work, perseverance, and innovativeness to keep the students engaged in the learning process. A teacher of Tahera’scalibre not only aims to impart quality education to her students but also aims to enable values through her teaching, especially hard work, patience, honesty, and respect.
