“When I walk into the classroom with a working model of a concept, my students can see the concept in action. For eight-year-olds, it is a great way to uncover ideas behind the technology that is present all around them. Besides, sometimes, even I learn new things in my journey to teaching them,” – Mr. Vinod Kumar Bansal

Even as a student, Vinod Kumar Bansal knew his hands had to constantly move for him to learn. It is a lesson that he vowed to pass on to his learners. He feels that to fulfill the needs of his children is an ongoing lesson, for which, he has had some help along the way!
Perhaps as Carl Sagan said, “Science is a way of thinking”, it is this thinking that he wants his students to learn. “When I walk into the classroom with a working model of a concept, my students can see the concept in action. For eight-year-olds, it is a great way to uncover ideas behind the technology that is present all around them. Besides, sometimes, even I learn new things in my journey to teaching them,” he says.
Often, a working model inspires children to create their versions of the concept. When they execute it, we know that real learning is happening. He follows each of their inventions and asks them constructive questions about the creation process. From identifying the number of steps to the reasons behind them, everything is essential for him. “My students love science, and I feel that teaching them to the best of my ability is all I must do. Also, when your students know so much, it becomes easier to teach! Ever since I have started using these methods, their scores have gone up across all subjects,” he says.
He often borrows books and resources from the Resource Room at the ITEI-EDMC. When teachers make use of the materials available to them, it strengthens the teaching-learning process. However, the choice of materials used needs to be systematic and scientific! ‘When the conditions are met, you get the result.’ While these words are by Oscar Wilde, for us to ensure the right conditions behind the success of our education system must be the ITEI-EDMC.
