Flying high against all odds
“I want to be a role model for girls in my community who want to work but are unable because of social taboos and barriers.”
Wahida Parveen
Trained at Reach India Trust-TMF SMART, Kolkata
Wahida Parveen from Nabapally, Kolkata aspired to be financially independent. Her father is a daily wage worker, and her mother is a homemaker. Wahida’s parents wanted to marry her off after graduation, but she had other plans. She wanted to open her wings and fly high in the sky. A door-to-door TMF- Reach India Trust mobilization campaign in communities around Nabapally opened the doors of SMART for her. When she heard about the Customer Relationship and Sales course, she was very interested in joining. Her parents were initially reluctant to get her enrolled but were eventually convinced by the counselors to let Wahida take admission.
Wahida attended all her classes during the 4-month course sincerely and after completing the training she got placed with a leading food delivery organization as a Senior Customer Care Executive. Today she is earning well, has become financially independent, and is happy to be able to contribute to the family income.
Expressing her happiness, she said “I want to be a role model for girls in my community who want to work but are unable because of social taboos and barriers. I hope to bring in positive change in the mindset of people who want to restrict girls from choosing a career. I want my story to inspire others”
